Three Traditional Tai Chi Seminars Worth Planning For in 2027

Many classes today focus on exercise, relaxation, and health. For practitioners who want to go deeper, there are also seminars devoted to the traditional side of the art, including long forms, Push Hands, applications, weapons, and the principles behind the movements.

Here are three events in 2027 you might consider. These are not endorsements by Redding Tai Chi, just events to explore. Please confirm dates and prices with the organizers before making plans, as details can change.

Sam Masich: Yang-Style 108 Long Form

Gatineau, Quebec | April 2-4, 2027

For practitioners of Yang-style Tai Chi, this is a rare opportunity.

Sam Masich will present a three-day intensive on the traditional Yang-style 108 Long Form. He has studied and researched the form for more than 40 years. The seminar will concentrate on the second half of the form, with an additional Friday evening class exploring the hands, arms, eyes, and waist in solo practice.

The cost is listed as C$285 for the three days, with individual-day and Friday-evening options also available. Registration details are available on the organizer’s website.

In my experience, the traditional Yang Long Form is becoming less common as instruction increasingly emphasizes shorter forms designed for general exercise. For those who want to study the longer form, an intensive devoted specifically to it is worth noting.

  • Dates: April 2-4, 2027
  • Location: Gatineau, Quebec
  • Teacher: Sam Masich
  • Style: Traditional Yang-style Taijiquan

Chen Taijiquan Festival

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania | May 21-24, 2027

The Chen Taijiquan Festival features Ryan Craig and Nabil Ranné and focuses on the Chen-style First Road, or Yilu.

The organizers plan to work through roughly one section of the form each day, with detailed corrections, body methods, martial ideas, and discussion. There will also be partner work, applications, and Push Hands. Four days devoted primarily to Yilu leaves time to look beyond remembering the sequence and explore how body mechanics and martial applications relate to the form.

  • Dates: May, 2027
  • Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
  • Teachers: Ryan Craig and Nabil Ranné
  • Style: Chen-style Taijiquan
  • Registration: Opens November 26, 2026
  • More information: CTN Academy

Chen Taijiquan Master Program

Redmond, Washington | October 20-24, 2027

This five-day program in the Seattle area is led by Master Xiangqian Zhu, a 12th-generation Chen Taijiquan practitioner and son of Grandmaster Zhu Tiancai. It will be held at the Seattle TianCai TaiChi Center in Redmond.

Rather than concentrating on a single form, the schedule covers a broad range of traditional training:

  • October 20: Public master class
  • October 21: Tai Chi Fan and Sword
  • October 22: Push Hands
  • October 23: Chen Laojia Yilu (old frame)
  • October 24: Chen Xinjia Yilu (new frame)

The school describes Zhu Tiancai’s lineage as the foundation of its training and has brought teachers from that lineage to Seattle for small-group instruction in forms, weapons, Push Hands, and theory. Early registration is available through March 31, 2027, and the school notes that space is limited.

  • Dates: October 20-24, 2027
  • Location: Redmond, Washington
  • Teacher: Master Xiangqian Zhu
  • Style: Chen Taijiquan
  • Format: Five-day intensive

Keep Exploring the Traditional Side of Tai Chi

Tai Chi has developed in many directions, and there is real value in practicing it for exercise, balance, relaxation, and health. It is also a traditional martial art with a deep body of knowledge about movement, structure, sensitivity, and the relationship between solo forms and partner practice.

A good seminar lets you spend several days on the parts of the art that are hard to explore in a weekly class. I’ll keep looking for seminars, workshops, and training opportunities across North America and highlight some of them here each month.
