Ethel Foster was a cherished and long-time member of our Tai Chi community.

Ethel Foster was a cherished and long-time member of our Tai Chi community. Although she had been practicing Tai Chi for many years before joining Redding Tai Chi, she continued her training with genuine curiosity and dedication. She often spoke of her lifelong interest in the martial arts, and mentioned that she had enjoyed fencing during her college years.

Ethel approached her Tai Chi practice with both thoughtfulness and determination. She enrolled in the Sanshou class and embraced the challenge wholeheartedly. When knee problems made it difficult for her to continue actively participating, she did not simply step away. Instead, she would come to observe, offering perceptive insights about the movements and encouraging her fellow students. Her presence was steady, attentive, and generous.

Beyond her technical understanding, it was her spirit that stood out — kind, engaged, and enthusiastic. She brought depth to our conversations and sincerity to her practice.

Ethel will be remembered not only for her dedication to Tai Chi, but for the warmth and encouragement she shared with all of us. She will be deeply missed.

Ethel always knew the all names of the various moves in the long form and sword form. Miss her!

Ethel and I practiced Tai Chi in Red Bluff many years together. We camped together in Sonoma County at Jane Golden’s Tai Chi summer camp. She was a delight and loved talking with her. She had a wonderful soul and may she rest in peace.
