New Year Tai Chi Event

The Chinese characters read “Happy New Year”.

This year, we had a wonderful turnout for our Start the New Year with Tai Chi event, marking the 11th year we have sponsored this annual gathering. Each year, we meet at Old City Hall in Redding—a meaningful location, as it is where our Tai Chi classes first began in 2015.

The group included both longtime practitioners and several people interested in beginning Tai Chi. Together, we practiced the Yang-style Long Form, followed by a demonstration of the Tai Chi Sword form. The morning concluded with Curtis R. offering a short talk on the use of a cane for self-defense, along with a demonstration of a Tai Chi cane form.

Our New Year’s event is an extension of the open-to-the-public Tai Chi practice we hold every Saturday throughout the year, with an added emphasis on beginning the year with intention and a focus on health and well-being. It continues to be a meaningful way for us to welcome the new year as a community, through mindful movement and shared practice.

For those of you that were not able to attend, here is a video of the Tai Chi Cane form performed by Curtis R.
